The Catholic Relief Services homepage features a good story on Hurricane Mitch, which devastated Central American countries ten years ago.
The CCST involvement in the village community of San Antonito, Guatemala is a continuing attempt to stabilize life in the area since Mitch. A multi-year water project managed by CRS Guatemala and promoted by the Catholic Charities Solidarity Team has recently completed its first phase; water is now running in the 25 homes in the community.
A second phase, providing water (and, hopefully) sustainability to the farmland surrounding the community, is now in the fund-raising stage. To that end, Fr. Kerrigan and Ernie Revoir met today with parishioners from Sacred Heart Parish, South Amboy, who are launching a "Water for Life" campaign for San Antonito beginning in January 2009.
